Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is a medical modality that essentially has been in existence since 1936. However, through the efforts of a handful of dedicated health care professionals, HBOT has risen from obscurity to an accepted therapy in mainstream medicine.
Among those health care professionals is Hope Fine RRT. (Registered Reparatory Therapist) CHT. (Certified Hyperbaric Technician) and for the past 30 years has dedicated herself to her profession.
Immediately after earning her degree in 1979, Ms. Fine was personally invited to become a team member by Dr .Denton Cooley, the first U.S. Thoracic Surgeon to successfully perform a heart transplant with an artificial heart, where she diligently applied her training, receiving outstanding recognition from Dr. Cooley for her part as a contributing staff member.
During her tenure and intense training at Texas Heart Institute under Dr. Denton Cooley, Ms. Fine’s knowledge and experience in the field of post surgical open heart surgery propelled her as a major candidate and a sought after team member for other specialized medical institutions throughout the country.
In 1981 Northridge Medical Center invited Ms. Fine to join their cardiovascular team in the Open Heart-Intensive Care Unit where she continued applying her specialized health care skills receiving honors from the Center and gaining the highest respect from her peers.
Accepting a position at Holy Cross Hospital as supervisor of Cardiopulmonary Diagnostic Testing, Ms. Fine continued practicing her skills until 1985, thereafter appointed to the same position at Boca Raton Community Hospital in conjunction with several other noted medical institutions throughout South Florida.
Because of her advanced knowledge with Post Surgical Open Heart Patients, Ms. Fine joined Florida Medical Center as team leader of the cardiovascular ICU and as an education coordinator.
Her responsibilities included overseeing the respiratory staff as well as developing and delivering in-service programs for the Respiratory Therapy Department for four hospitals including Florida Medical Center, Florida Medical Center South, Colonades and Springtree Nursing Homes.
At the same time she developed innovative in–service programs for the Nursing and Physical Therapy departments, which were designed to keep the staff current on Respiratory Therapy procedures.
In 1997, Ms Fine became the single most qualified candidate out of a field of 300 applicants, to help plan, organize and launch the opening of a Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Unit at Florida Medical Center, which was sponsored by Sechrist Industries, the worlds leading Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber manufacturer.
Overseeing the construction, planning, and designing of the oxygen unit with a budget of over $1.5 million dollars the Hyperbaric Unit began treating patients in August of 1997.
During the first 14 months of operation while Ms. Fine was the Unit’s department head at FMC, the fees for services generated out performed Sechrist Industries expectations, producing sufficient funds to finance the Units start-up costs.
The medical community in the United States is trailing significantly behind the rest of the world’s technology regarding Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy.
For example, Japan, France and Germany have expanded the use of the HBO modality to include diagnoses far beyond the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s 14 approved diagnoses.
Because of Ms. Fine’s overwhelming dedication to health care, she began examining the positive results of HBOT as it is applied to neurologically deficient disorders.
She discovered that private studies in Europe and the United States showed HBOT to be very effective in treating a list of neurological disorders.
Because hospital based HBOT clinics in the United States treat only FDA approved diagnoses (typically wound care), Ms. Fine became interested in the treatment of patients outside the FDA approved applications.
These treatments include, but are not limited to cerebral Palsy, stroke autism/ADD/ADHD, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, near drowning and traumatic brain injury.
Envisioning the need for a Hyperbaric Clinic that could treat patients encompassing typical and atypical diagnoses, Hope, teaming with her business partner, Gary Kaufman, created South Florida Center For H.O.P.E. in Deerfield Beach, Florida, a free standing HBOT clinic dedicated to insure professional health care and providing state of the art Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy in a safe environment, focusing not only on wound care but neurological disorders to those medically entitled patients.
Since its inception, South Florida Center for H.O.P.E. has successfully impacted the medical community not only in complete compliance with patient safety but the ability to disseminate its medical findings and knowledge to other health care providers.

A NOT FOR PROFIT 501c TAX DEDUCTABLE FOUNDATION DEDICATED TO RAISING FUNDS TO HELP LOW INCOME FAMILIES WITH AUTISTIC CHILDREN TO RECEIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY, SOUND THERAPY AND HYPERBARIC OXYGEN THERAPY AND IN THE FUTURE ADDING OTHER SPECIALIZED ANCILLARY TREATMENTS
