The introduction of air into the venous or the arterial system can cause cerebral air embolism leading to severe neurological deficits. The most common causes are a result of invasive medical procedures or surgery.
Hyperbaric treatment has been proven to be unquestionably indicated for the treatment of air embolism with neurological deficits. Early treatment provides better results then late treatment but HBO treatment should be considered at any stage the patient presents. |
