EXISTING TECHNOLOGY NOW BEING USED AND GETTING INCREDIBLE RESULTS IN TREATING AUTISTIC CHILDREN: BREAKTHROUGH ALTERNATIVE THERAPY NOW GIVING HOPE TO PARENTS AND AUTISTIC CHILDREN
South Florida Center one of the first to offer life-improving Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy to Autistic children
• Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder that begins in early childhood and persists throughout adulthood affecting the development of social interaction and communication. Autism has no boundaries- it affects children from all socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds. It was originally thought that one 1 out of 10,000 children were autistic. Now that we know more about Autism, it is believed that as many as 1 out of 150 children in the United States have Autism. Autism is now more common than childhood cancer, cerebral palsy, Down’s syndrome, spinal-bifida and cystic fibrosis.
• Until now, parents had nowhere to turn to help their Autistic children, aside from counseling, occupational therapy, speech therapy and medication, which often are not enough. In the past, parents were left with little hope after their children were diagnosed with Autism.
• A research study in Europe has found that Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT), a technology that has been around since 1936, can help improve symptoms in Autistic children. Combined with other routine treatments, such as medication, diet and therapy, HBOT is one of the most effective therapies for Autism and is producing astounding results. HBOT is changing the lives of thousands of children who suffer from the increasing epidemic of Autism. It is providing new hope to families everywhere to help children live a “normal life.”
• The Harnley family from England recently visited Miami with the hopes of helping their two Autistic children. While visiting a doctor in Miami, Stephen and Geraldine Harnley read a South Florida parenting magazine and saw an advertorial for the South Florida Center for H.O.P.E., which is one of the first centers to use Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy to treat Autistic children. The Harnleys talked to the doctor and he wholeheartedly agreed. Thus far, the children have been treated for about three weeks and the Harnleys and the doctor are already seeing a remarkable difference. The children are calmer and exhibiting better social skills for the first time. Their son is following commands and showing improved eye contact. Even more remarkable improvements are expected as treatment continues.
• Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is a painless, extremely safe, non-invasive therapy. Each treatment involves breathing 100% oxygen (we normally breathe about 21% oxygen) in a pressurized, completely clear cylindrical chamber for a regulated prescribed time. While being treated, the child is relaxing and watching his or her favorite video. Clinical studies show HBOT has been used successfully, at varying pressures, to treat a range of conditions by increasing the blood flow and oxygen to the brain.
• Hope Fine, a Registered Respiratory Therapist and Certified Hyperbaric Technologist, opened the South Florida Center for H.O.P.E. after working at a hospital where HBOT treatment was only used to help wound or burn patients. She saw the possibility to help even more people, such as those with Autism, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, stroke, Parkinson’s disease, Lyme disease, and sports injuries. With the desire to help others, she opened the South Florida Center for H.O.P.E. seven years ago and has seen astounding results ever since, especially since they began treating Autistic children.
• When asked why she thinks using HBOT to treat Autistic children is so important, Hope Fine stated, “Most of these children don’t speak; and if they do, it’s mumbling. I feel good about helping to give these children a voice that needs to be heard.”
• South Florida Center for H.O.P.E. is a provider for most insurance carriers and frequently is successful in recovering reimbursement for HBOT treatments.
• Hope has created a non-profit foundation - FUND for H.O.P.E., Inc. - which is instrumental in financially assisting low income families with Autistic children, between the ages of 2 through 10 years, who qualify for Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy treatments. Hope believes that all children should have the right to better health care just like everyone else.
